It’s
no secret that our prisons are overflowing. In some states people
who should be paying for the crimes they committed are out walking
the streets because there’s not enough room for them in
the prisons. A lot of this has to do with the fact that after
many criminals have paid for their crimes, they are released only
to commit the same crimes over again.
The
U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics website says that 78.8% of motor
vehicle thieves are arrested again for the same crime after they’ve
been released and 2.6% of rapists are arrested for rape again
in only three years after their release. Of the one hundred billion
dollars taxpayers spend on prisons every year, not even 1% goes
to rehabilitating inmates. We’re not reforming people we’re
simply holding them until they can go back out and return to their
old lives of crime.
That’s
why Car Angel feels it’s so important to work toward a change
in our prisons. Every year, Car Angel comes out with a new book
that is distributed to the prisons and calls for reform and change.
Each book educates criminals on the reality of the lives they
are living and calls them to come away from their former life
and become productive members of society.
Our
books have made such a difference that taxpayers save an estimated
$160,000,000 a year from criminals who have read our books and
changed their lives because of it.
Below
is an excerpt from Death Sentence, one of the many books that
have been sent out to the prisons. Take the time to read it and
see for yourself why our books are making a difference. The more
books that go out, the bigger difference we’ll make.
